Who operates this site
turningpnt.com is run by the Crossgate project. For anything about your data, write towmcrossgate@gmail.com.
Necessary storage
Two small pieces of first-party storage make the site work. They contain no name, email address or account identifier, only the two facts below; they are set by this site, not by Google, and they exist whether or not you accept analytics.
| Name | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| age-ok | Remembers that you confirmed you are 18 or older, so the age gate does not ask on every page. | 1 year |
| crossgate-consent | Remembers your choice about optional analytics (accepted or rejected) and when you made it, so we do not ask again. | 180 days, or until the choices on offer change |
The documentation pages also keep your light/dark theme preference in your browser's local storage (starlight-theme). It never leaves your browser.
Optional analytics
If you accept it, this site uses Google Analytics to see, in aggregate, which of its public pages are visited and how visitors arrive, so we can improve the site. It runs only after you choose "Accept analytics", and never before: until then no request is made to Google and no analytics cookie is set.
Where it runs: the public website pages, currently /, /about/, /download/, /privacy/. It does not run on the age confirmation page, and the documentation under /docs/ is not measured at all: those pages load no analytics code, whatever you chose.
When it runs, Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_… to tell returning visits apart, and records page views with technical details such as the page address, the referring page, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your browser and device type. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off in our configuration. The legal basis is your consent.
Rejecting analytics changes nothing about what you can read or download here.
Recipients and transfers
Analytics data is processed by Google (Google Ireland Limited for users in the European Economic Area) on our behalf as a processor, under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms that cover Google Analytics. Google may process it on servers outside the European Economic Area; the safeguards Google relies on for such transfers are described in Google's privacy and security documentation, and how Google Analytics handles data is described in Safeguarding your data. We do not sell this data, and apart from Google acting for us to run Analytics we do not pass it to any other recipient for this purpose.
Retention
Three different clocks apply, and they are not the same thing:
- Cookies in your browser. age-ok lasts 1 year and crossgate-consent 180 days. The Google Analytics cookies _ga and _ga_… can last up to 2 years from your last visit, but this site removes them as soon as you withdraw consent.
- Event-level data in Google Analytics (individual page views and similar events tied to a cookie identifier) is kept for 2 months, as set in our analytics account.
- User-level data in Google Analytics (the data Google associates with a cookie identifier, including key-event data) is kept for 14 months. Our account resets that period whenever the same identifier is active again, so the data of someone who keeps visiting can be kept for longer than 14 months from their first visit.
- Standard aggregated reports. According to Google's documentation, these retention settings do not affect the standard aggregated reports Google Analytics keeps, so not everything derived from your visits disappears after 2 or 14 months; only the event- and user-level data above does.
Google describes these settings in Data retention in Google Analytics.
Your choices and rights
- You can reject analytics, and everything on this site works the same.
- You can withdraw consent at any time in the settings below; the analytics cookies are removed and no further data is sent.
- You can ask us about the data we hold, or to have it deleted, at wmcrossgate@gmail.com.
- You have the right to complain to the data-protection supervisory authority of your country of residence.
Privacy & cookie settings
Necessary storage (the age confirmation and this choice) is always on. Optional analytics is off unless you turn it on here, and you can turn it off again at any time.
